Cardiac FAQ

Find the heart care answers you need

If you’ve just received a heart condition diagnosis or are starting treatment, you may have many questions. Adventist Health wants you to feel informed and confident, so we’ve compiled answers to commonly asked questions.

Our cardiology FAQ is designed to ease your concerns and help you feel supported along the way.

What should I expect when I meet the doctor for the first time?

Your cardiologist will talk with you about your medical history and symptoms and conduct a thorough exam. At that appointment, we’ll discuss the next steps, including any additional tests you may need.

How do I know if I need heart surgery?

We typically start treatment with nonsurgical therapies when possible. But sometimes, those methods are not sufficient to relieve your symptoms, and you may need surgery. We determine your treatment plan based on your symptoms, medical history, severity of the condition and your personal preferences.

After your diagnosis, our team of experts collaborates to discuss the best treatment for you. We explain your treatment options in a straightforward, caring way to help you make the choice that’s right for you.

What do I need to know before my surgery?

Your care team provides you with thorough guidelines to prepare for surgery. These important to-do’s help ensure a safe, smooth surgery and recovery.

What kinds of technologies do you use to diagnose and treat patients?

We use the latest technology to offer safe, effective cardiac diagnosis and treatment. Our cardiac imaging tools include ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, CT scans, PET and SPECT scans.

Our interventional cardiology team often performs minimally invasive procedures using catheters (thin, flexible tubes). Minimally invasive methods use smaller incisions which can result in a quicker recovery. We also have expertise in traditional, open surgery, which may be the most effective approach for your needs.

Where will I receive treatment?
