Adventist Health Hanford receives its third straight ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group

HANFORD – Adventist Health Hanford was awarded an ‘A’ in the fall 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing the achievements of Adventist Health in the Central Valley to protect patients from harm and provide safer healthcare.

This is the hospitals third straight ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group, which is an independent national watchdog organization committed to quality and safety. Adventist Health Hanford also earned ‘A’ grades in spring 2020 and fall 2019.

The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. It is based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“We are honored to once again be recognized for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group,” said Dr. Frank Gavini, medical officer for Adventist Health in the Central Valley, which includes hospitals in Hanford, Reedley, Selma and Tulare as well as medical offices in 25 communities throughout the region. “Despite the challenges this year, our teams have not wavered in their heartfelt commitment to the health and safety of our patients and have continued to provide the highest quality care at every opportunity.”

“Our patients trust us to provide the safest environment while in our hospital, and we are extremely grateful to every member of our team for continuously exceeding those expectations,” said Laurie Taggart, patient care executive for Adventist Health in the Central Valley.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital’s Safety Grade’s methodology is peer reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
