Adventist Health St. Helena has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Emergency Care, Heart Care, Minimally Invasive Surgery and as one of America’s Best Stroke Centers by the Women’s Choice Award®, America’s trusted referral source for the best in healthcare.

The award signifies that Adventist Health St. Helena is in the top 1% for Emergency Care, the top 5% for Heart Care, the top 1% for Minimally Invasive Surgery and the top 5% for Stroke Care (percentages measured from 4,728 U.S. hospitals offering these services).

“Hospital choice is a critical decision, particularly for women who make over 90% of healthcare decisions,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “Our Best Hospital awards gives women the confidence that they need to know they have selected a hospital where they and their families are more likely to receive care that is truly patient-centric for the best possible outcomes.”

Each year, there are more than 130 million emergency room visits in the U.S. Emergency departments continue to be an essential part of the healthcare system as they provide fast, life-or-limb saving care to millions. Unlike other hospital departments that interact with the same patient and families for an extended period, emergency services staff typically have one patient encounter, often when the patient’s anxiety and fear are at their peak.

Adventist Health St. Helena is one of 477 Women’s Choice Award recipients that represent hospitals that have met the highest standards for emergency care in the U.S. It’s also one of 327 award recipients representing hospitals in the nation that have met the highest standards for heart care.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of American women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year—approximately one woman every minute. What’s often thought of as a “man’s disease” strikes more women than men and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined.

Additionally, Adventist Health St. Helena is one of 358 Women’s Choice Award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for minimally invasive surgery across the U.S.

Minimally Invasive Surgery has become the standard of care for many surgical procedures as a safer, less invasive and more effective option to open surgery. Minimally Invasive surgeries minimize risks to the patient by significantly reducing the size of the incisions, which has clear benefits, including shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, faster recovery, and reduced pain, scarring, and costs.

Lastly, Adventist Health St. Helena is one of 471 Women’s Choice Award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for stroke care in the U.S.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in five women in the United States will have a stroke in her lifetime. Nearly 60% of stroke deaths, a “brain attack,” are in women, and stroke kills twice as many women as breast cancer. Most alarming, studies show that women are more likely to be misdiagnosed for stroke even with the same symptoms present as men.

“We are honored to be acknowledged as a trusted referral source for women and as one of America’s Best Hospitals for our services. It is a well-deserved tribute to our dedicated staff and their concern for the well-being of the community.” says Dr. Steven Herber, Adventist Health St. Helena president.
