Adventist Health Portland Accredited for Bariatric Surgery

News, Awards & Recognition

Adventist Health Portland recently received accreditation for low-acuity bariatric surgery from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). This accreditation shows the program meets nationally recognized bariatric surgical standards.

In partnership with Oregon Health & Science University, Adventist Health offers bariatric surgery for qualifying patients on its main medical center campus.

“Bariatric surgery can be life-changing for so many people,” says Kyle King, Adventist Health Portland president. “We’re so pleased to partner with OHSU to improve the health and well-being of our community.”

Patients enjoy the convenience of presurgery evaluation offered through virtual visits and classes. This includes a bariatric surgery seminar; assistance with insurance eligibility; appointments with nurse practitioners, dietitians, physical therapists and psychologists; weight-loss classes; a treatment plan; and a patient navigator call.

“For most people, diet and exercise do not provide long-term sustainable weight loss. Bariatric surgery can help people feel better in their bodies and improve or cure other medical problems like high blood pressure or diabetes. It can also prevent cancer and help people live longer, healthier lives,” says Dr. Ryland Stucke, Adventist Health Portland bariatric surgeon. “The teams at both Adventist Health Portland and OHSU are here to support our patients during every step of their journey.”
