Service with a Smile

Your boss seems to be overly demanding, the long work orders continue to come in, our favorite co-worker is out sick, and the one that rubs you the wrong way is up in your face. You’d like to hide under your desk until 5 but you know the project won’t get done unless you step up. Work can be chaotic and at times burdensome, these type of life situations can cause us all undue stress. Luckily, this is when spirituality can be beneficial.

Consider this verse from scripture which states, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance Colossians 3:23,24, ”We can see that even spiritually there is an emphasis on providing quality work. Paul is writing about the spiritual aspects of work and having the vision to see work as a holy cause where you are accountable to God, by adding this new spiritual understanding, you boost your own personal productivity. It is also recommend to help others express their spirituality at work when appropriate.

Having a sense of spiritual purpose at the workplace adds meaning and builds a strong awareness of community within the organization. Remember this has to be executed in a way that is respectful to every employee’s faith and spirituality. Being the positive force at work sometimes is the easiest way to deal with the negative quirks of office life, master this and you will balance work-life.

“Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.”
